Struggling with Alignment? Here’s the Fix for Straighter Shots

⛳️ Do cold temps affect your distances?

It’s Thursday and you’ve got this coming,

⛳️ Mastering Your Alignment

Hey there, golfers! Today, let’s talk about something that so many of you can improve to seriously change your game, alignment! I know a lot of you think you’ve got this part down, but trust me, most golfers are off when it comes to alignment. So, let’s dive into how you can improve it and get more consistent on the course!

We’re next up on the tee, let’s go!

BUT BEFORE WE START…

As we head into cooler temps, Temperatures are dropping. And guess what, they affect your golf ball! Read the full article here Credit to Andrew Rice and Ping Golf

  • Most of our club carry distances are acquired in temperatures close to 75º F (24º C)

  • For every 10º below 75º each club in your bag will CARRY (approximately) 2 yds shorter

  • For every 10º above 75º each club in your bag will CARRY (approximately) 2 yds longer

  • This is a rule of thumb to help you make better-informed club selection choices

Callaway has continued to make massive leaps in Golf Ball development over the last few years. I use the new Callaway Chrome Tour Golf Ball and its performance has been incredible!

“Consistency is key with how a golf ball performs and Chrome Tour has that in abundance. Here’s how it compares in carry dispersion vs. Pro V1”

ONE TIP
“Yeah, my alignment is good” Are you sure about that?

If you want to watch my breakdown of this tip, check it out here!

Alignment is all about where your body and club are in relation to your target. First, make sure your clubface is aimed exactly at where you want the ball to start, remember club face is king!. After that, align your body parallel to the clubface. It sounds simple, but getting this sequence right is often overlooked and we assume “yeah, my alignment is good”

Common Mistakes

One of the biggest mistakes I see? Golfers will pick a target in front of the ball, set up, and never actually check their alignment. This often leads to a stance where your body is aimed too far left—resulting in that dreaded slice or a quick hook. Misalignment like this can throw off your entire swing.

A New Approach: Targeting Behind the Ball

Here’s a little tip I’ve been using with my students that works: instead of focusing on a target in front of the ball, pick one behind it. I know that sounds a bit weird, but let me explain:

When you focus on a target behind the ball, you naturally avoid shifting your eyes too far forward, which for those of us who are right-eye dominant can throw off where we are looking. This can allow you to keep your focus on your body’s alignment, rather than constantly adjusting your head to look at the target. How to Use This Technique

  1. Find a target behind your golf ball that lines up with the direction you want to hit. Just like you normally do with a target in front of the ball, except behind it.

  2. Set your clubface to this target first.

  3. Align your feet parallel to the line between the target behind you and your ball.

  4. When on the driving range, you can use an alignment rod to check your setup—this helps ensure you’re aiming exactly where you want.

Checking Your Alignment

Once you’ve set up, take a quick look at where your feet are pointing. If you find them angled left of your target, adjust your setup until your body is aligned parallel to your target line. Simple adjustments like this can make a world of difference.

Why This Works

This method is especially useful if you’re right-eye dominant. By focusing on the target behind the ball, you’ll reduce unnecessary head movement. It’s about figuring out what feels right for you.

Final Thoughts

If alignment has been a struggle for you, give this method a shot. It could be the small tweak you need to start hitting straighter, more consistent shots. Remember, tiny changes can lead to big improvements.
