One of the most common things golfers hear is “stay down.”
But when players take that too literally, they often get stuck.
They struggle with things like:
• Slide
• Chicken wing
• Poor rotation
• Difficulty releasing the club
Why? Because the downswing actually requires parts of your lead side to move up. This drill is a great way to feel that.
I place a resistance band under my lead foot and hold the other end in my hand.
From the top of the backswing, the goal is simple:
lengthen the band without pulling with the arm. The arm just holds the band. To stretch it, your body has to work correctly:
Your lead knee extends
Your lead hip moves up and back
Your lead shoulder works up and back
All of that motion starts from the force you apply into the ground with your lead foot.
For players who struggle to understand how the downswing begins, this drill creates a really clear visual.
Sometimes the key isn’t swinging harder…
it’s understanding how the lead side works in the downswing.
Thanks for reading and watching!
