Golf Never Sleeps #003
It’s Thursday and that means you’ve got 3 things coming,
⛳️ One Golf Tip
🧠 One Quote or Stat
🔥 Something extra (it’ll be at the bottom)
We’re next up on the tee, let’s go!
One Tip, Your Clubface is king! Here is how to check
The club face is what hits the ball, and where your club face is pointing has a lot to do with where it goes (over 70% of the launch direction is determined by the club face). A lot of the things that I talk about in lessons are about the body and different positions, but all of those revolve around getting the club face pointing at the optimal place for you and the way you move at impact!
Click here, if you want to watch me break this down on video.
Why does the Clubface matter?
Well for lack of any crazy explanation, if your face is open, the ball will go right (if you’re right-handed), if the face is closed the ball will go left (if you’re right-handed), if the face is square to where you’re aiming, the golf ball will go in that direction (regardless what hand you are!)
Check your Club Face in two key places
I often talk about when the club is parallel to the ground, to keep it simple let’s use the term “Hip high”. In both the backswing and the downswing checking where your club face is pointing (open or closed) can help you understand why your golf ball flies in the direction it does!
What does an open or closed face look like?
An open clubface will be pointing up to the sky
A closed clubface will be pointing more down to the ground
A more neutral clubface (neutral is good!) will have the toe of the club pointing more up
How can you check this?
While making rehearsal swings you can check this, take the club back in the backswing or downswing and stop when it is parallel to the ground.
Use Video filming from down the line
So let’s summarize:
1) The clubface is extremely important
2) You need to know where yours is pointing!
3) Knowing will help you understand why your golf ball goes where it goes!
4) Checking is easy!
One Quote, about how you should look at your Golf Shots!
“Great golf is often a whole bunch of mediocre golf shots, the occasional great shot, and minimizing the horrible shots (OB, into the trees, duffs, etc...)”
My go to realist Lou Stagner tweeted the info below and the quote above really hit me. For so many we are constantly trying to focus on hitting more amazing shots, when the biggest opportunity is around minimizing the really, really bad ones!

Are "GREAT" shots the key to good scores?
How often should you hit a "GREAT" shot?
First, we need to define what a "great" shot is.
For this example, a great shot is one that is in the top ten percentile of shots... (where shots are ranked by how many strokes they… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

This week's something extra……
Your Golf Season is not over yet! September is here and for many, it feels like the Golf season will start to slow down. This is your reminder, that every round is a chance to work on something, set a goal, and go for it!
