We’re next up on the tee, let’s go!

ONE TIP
Where are you actually aiming and looking?!

Alignment, we can never work on it or check it enough! Now I know this sounds like a boring topic, but picture this…

You are enjoying your day on the golf course, seemingly hitting the golf ball where you want every single time. It’s almost as if you unlocked some secret ability to know where your golf ball is going to go…….

Yeah, it’s called knowing where you’re aiming, and just as importantly, where you’re looking! And today I am going to make sure you know how to set up the Ultimate Practice Station!

Click here, if you want to watch me break this down on video.

There are 3 key things we need to line up, let’s dive into them!

  • Where your Club Face is pointing

Remember, club face is king! You can have the best body alignment ever, but if your club face isn't aiming where you think it is, we’ve got a problem! The alignment rod in front of the golf ball is what I use to pay attention to where my club face is pointing. If you set up this alignment rod and now it looks like your club face is way more open or closed than normal, then you have been setting your club face in a different spot than you thought.

  • Where your feet are aiming (Toe Line)

This is an easy one, let’s get your toe line parallel to where you want the ball to start. When our feet don’t match where we want the Golf Ball to go it can lead to a bunch of compensations. It can affect the path of your club, where you aim your shoulders and others. You need to know where your feet (and as a result, your lower body is aiming).

  • Where you want the golf ball to start (Ball Line)

So we’ve set up the Golf club and our body, now the moment of truth, does the golf ball start where we want it to? Golfers will often look at the end result without considering if the ball even starts online or not. When I set the orange alignment rod, 90% of the time Golfers think it is way off. Then they stand behind it and say “Holy Smokes” that looks so far off to me. And that’s why this one is also important. We need to know where to look for the Golf ball to start where we want it to!

So let’s summarize:
Alignment can have a huge effect on where the Golf Ball goes. So when we practice, let’s set up a station that can cover the main areas:

1) Let’s become an expert at aiming the Club Face
2) Make sure you know where your body is pointing
3) Know where you are looking!

White Rod is Toe Line
Green Rod is Club face alignment
Orange Rod is the Golf Ball Start line

ONE STAT
It’s Ryder Cup week!

I am excited for the Ryder Cup this week! I will be watching as much as I can. I don’t really care who wins but I always find it fascinating that the US has a team that looks unstoppable on paper, yet they often struggle. Something that often gets talked about is how much they struggle in “Foursomes” which is Ryder Cup for “Alternate Shot”

“The U.S. team has won only two foursome sessions in its last seven Ryder Cups played on European soil: one in 2002 and the other in 2010.”

In the last 4 Ryder Cups on European soil:
Europe - 22.5 Points
USA - 9.5 Points

If the US wants to have a chance at winning the Ryder Cup, they will need to be better in Foursomes!

THIS WEEK’S SOMETHING EXTRA
Thoughts on how to improve your tournament play

This week’s podcast episode is around “Club Championship Thoughts” Golfers often treat a competitive round so differently than a regular round. This stems from the fact most of the time when they play a regular round they don’t really prepare for it, but when they play in a tournament round (club championship for example) they change everything about the way they think about it and prepare for it. Check out the clip below to hear a little more.
