Control Your Wedge Trajectory With a Simple Setup Change
When golfers want to hit different wedge shots, they usually start manipulating the swing.
They open the face. They try to add loft. They slow down or flip the hands. Most of the time, that just makes things inconsistent.
A much simpler way to control trajectory is by changing your setup — not your swing.

For wedge shots in that 40–70 yard range, we’re usually looking for a stock launch around 27–30°. That’s the flight that gives you the spin and control to land the ball and get that nice one-hop-and-stop.
From there, you can change trajectory with two small setup adjustments.
Stock shot:
Ball in the middle of your stance with your nose over the golf ball.
Low “change-up” shot:
Move the ball one ball back and get your trail ear over the ball. That lowers the launch and gives you a shot that runs out more.
High soft shot:
Move the ball one ball forward and get your lead ear over the ball. That helps launch it higher and land it softer.
The key idea is simple: change your setup, keep the same swing. That keeps the motion consistent while letting the launch change naturally.
