Better Backswing can create a better Golf Swing!


It's really hard to make a good downswing if you don't make a good backswing. I've been seeing a common swing fault creep into some of my student’s golf swings lately, and I want to bring it up to you today to make sure you don't fall victim!

Something I've been seeing a lot of is players swaying in the backswing, and most of them don't even know that they're doing it. There's a very easy way to check to make sure that you are not setting up to sway off the golf ball.

It starts with your trail foot! I see a lot of golfers just sway off the golf ball starting with weight on the outside of their trail foot. Visually it'll look like they've rolled onto the outside of that foot. Good backswings usually require us to maintain some pressure on the inside of that trail foot as we pivot. Once you sway and you are on the outside of your trail foot it is very hard to get the pressure shift we need in the downswing which for many people leads to poor contact and oftentimes hanging back.

Next time you're hitting golf balls make sure that you are not falling for this very simple fault. Make sure you're using your entire right foot and remaining pressure on the inside of that trail foot.

My go-to drill to check this:
- At setup, checking where the pressure is in my feet is
- Get the feeling of pinching my knees in
- Using some like The Force Pedal to press into
- Using a yoga block to avoid knocking over

Careful of your weight getting on the outside of your trail foot!
